Examination Security

Security is paramount to examinations, and we have designed policies and protocols to protect the validity of our examinations and to prevent anyone from gaining an unfair advantage. When registering for any of NBCC's examinations, you must agree to our terms and conditions.

Security measures include but are not limited to the following:

  • Multiple levels of identity verification are required for both online and in-person administration.
  • Randomization of the order of items, case studies, and response options is built into the examination administration process.
  • Protections are taken to restrict and monitor subject matter expert (SME) and candidate access to examination content.
  • Confidentiality agreements are required for all registered candidates, SMEs, employees of NBCC and CCE, and all other individuals or vendors who have access to examination content.
  • We proactively search for test-prep companies, study groups, and any other individuals, groups, or entities to ensure that there is no unauthorized access or distribution of examination content.
  • We provide secure spaces for reporting of suspected confidentiality breaches, cheating, or other violations.

NBCC offers examinations using a variety of options: in person through a Pearson VUE testing center, or online using OnVUE, or Examity. No matter what delivery method you choose, when you are registering to take one of NBCC’s examinations, you are agreeing to all appropriate security procedures. These include, but are not limited to the following:

Testing Centers:

  • No cell phones, cameras, notes, tape recorders, personal digital assistants (PDAs), or pagers are allowed in the examination room.
  • No calculators are permitted.
  • No guests, visitors, or family members are allowed in the examination room.
  • Keys and wallets are allowed, but no other personal items, valuables, or weapons can be brought into the examination room, and NBCC is not responsible for items left outside.

You can learn more about Pearson VUE’s security policies for candidates on its website.

OnVUE Online Administration:

You are required to capture four photos or conduct a “room sweep” of your testing environment.

Constant online proctoring/monitoring will be conducted by both artificial intelligence and a trained proctor via webcam and microphone throughout the examination.

You must review all submitted information and follow-ups, as needed, with a proctoring team member.

You can learn more about how Pearson VUE’s online platform, OnVUE, protects candidate information and data on the Pearson VUE website.
